History: George Dila, the founder and longtime mentor of Ludington Writers (LW), was a prolific writer and staunch advocate for the communal benefits of the arts. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) and inspired countless writers through workshops, access to established authors, and encouragement.
To honor George’s legacy, the George Dila Memorial Sponsorship encourages LW members to expand their horizons beyond West Michigan by attending a writing event of their choice. This sponsorship is available annually to one active LW member or a group of members and aims to support their growth as writers.
Details: The sponsorship is available to one active member or group of members annually. Active members must have attended at least one LW meeting or event in the prior calendar year.
The sponsorship amount will cover actual event expenses up to $500 (subject to available funds). If multiple writers attend the same event, the $500 may be split among the participants to cover their respective expenses. Examples of eligible expenses include registration fees, lodging, meals, and transportation.
Funds may be advanced to cover initial costs, but receipts are required for all claimed expenses.
Previous winners are ineligible to apply in the year immediately following their award.
The recipient(s) will be selected by lottery and asked to provide a brief report about their experience.
The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 18.
